Students and the free apps

No accounts. No student data.

Our free web apps run entirely in your browser. They don’t ask for an account, an email address, or a name, and nothing a student plays, types, or sets inside an app is ever sent to us or to anyone else. We count that the page was opened — see cookies and analytics — but never what happens in it.

An app may remember your own settings — a tempo, a key, a preference — by storing them in your browser on your own device. That information stays on the device, is not sent to us, and is cleared when you clear your browser’s data.

Because the apps collect nothing from students, there is no student record for us to hold, share, sell, or lose. A director can put them in front of a class without collecting consent forms on our behalf.

What we collect

We collect personal information in one situation:

  • When you email us. Whatever you put in the message, held in our email system so we can answer you.

The public site also records cookieless page views and non-identifying download events, described below. Those records do not contain a name, email address, account, or student work.

There is currently no storefront and no newsletter signup. If either launches, this policy will be updated before it begins collecting purchase or subscription information.

Cloudflare hosts the pages and apps and keeps standard server logs for security and reliability. We don’t use those logs to build a profile of you.

Why we collect it

  • To answer you when you email with a question or a problem.
  • To keep the site working and to understand, in aggregate, which pages and tools people actually use.

We do not sell your information, rent it, or trade it. We don’t run advertising, and we don’t make money from any recommendation on this site.

Who we share it with

Only the services that make the public site and email work, and only what each one needs:

  • Google Workspace — our email, so we can read and answer your message.
  • Cloudflare — hosting and delivery for this site and the free apps.

Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what it does with what it holds. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies, and loads one script that talks to anyone. No trackers, no advertising pixels, no embedded fonts or widgets calling out to anyone else — the brand font is served from our own domain for exactly this reason. The app catalog, the lessons index and the Teaching Sequences hub also load a small script of our own that sorts and filters the list already on the page; it makes no request, stores nothing, and the pages work without it.

The script that talks to anyone is a Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon, and it counts page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, does not fingerprint your device, and cannot follow you to another site — there is no identifier for it to follow you with. What it reports is which page you opened, the page that linked you to it, your browser and device type, roughly where in the world you are, and how quickly the page loaded. It never reports your name, your email address, or anything you do inside an app. We read it to learn which pages teachers are actually finding.

We also count downloads. That counting happens on our server rather than in your browser: a download is a file, not a page, so no script runs on your device and nothing is stored on it. When you use a download button we record the date and time, which resource and which file you asked for, its version number, the country the request came from, and the site that linked you to us if there was one — the site, never the full address, so a search you typed or a link from your school's system stays with you.

That is the entire record. It holds no name, no email address, no IP address, and no identifier of any kind, which means nothing in it can say that two downloads were the same person — we do not collect what that would take. We read it to learn which resources teachers actually use, so we know what to make next.

How long we keep it

  • Emails you send us — kept while they are useful for supporting you, then deleted.
  • Download records — kept indefinitely. A resource's download total is meant to describe its whole life, so it is never reset. Because these records identify nobody, there is no person for us to be holding anything about.

Your rights

Email taylor@backwerdrimshot.com and we will:

  • tell you what we hold about you,
  • correct it if it’s wrong,
  • delete it when we are not required to keep it.

We answer these requests as quickly as we reasonably can.

Schools and districts

The free apps are designed to be usable in a classroom without a district data agreement, because there is no student data to agree about — no accounts, no logins, no rosters, nothing sent from the student’s device.

There is no storefront today. If institutional purchasing becomes available, it will be handled by an adult on behalf of the school, and this policy will be updated before purchase data is collected. If your district needs a data privacy agreement or has questions, email taylor@backwerdrimshot.com.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy. The version posted on this page is the current one, and the date at the top says when it last changed.
